My Story
I Love Teaching Math
Supplies for math are pretty standard. I would suggest you have a notebook to write down formulas, rules, examples, etc. Geometry students will need a compass to complete construction assignments. For those in Pre-Algebra – Geometry, I would recommend a basic, scientific calculator. For Algebra II and above, I would recommend the TI-84plus graphing calculator. I highly recommend the math videos that are listed on the academic guides found on the Academy website. These will help with more explanations regarding the lesson if you are having trouble.
My favorite subject in high school was math. Somewhat because I was good at it, but mostly because I had an amazing teacher. However, I never thought I would end up teaching math! It wasn’t until my sophomore year of college that I realized I was being called to teach math. I remember telling my high school math teacher what I had decided and he simply smiled with a knowing smile as if to say, “I told you so!” I received my bachelor’s degree from Florida State University in math education in 1997. I returned to school to complete my master’s degree from Georgia State University also in math education in 2013. I have taught at North Florida Christian School and North Florida Christian Academy sixth grade math through AP Calculus as well as dual-enrollment College Algebra through Tallahassee State College. I feel truly blessed to be teaching at the school I loved as a kid, teaching the same classes that my mentor taught. I try to make him proud each day I teach by (hopefully) explaining math in a way that students can understand and apply as they move forward in life.

About My Family
This Is Home

My husband, Dennis, and I have been married for 23 years. We have two children, Emma who attends FSU, and Jack who is a senior at NFC graduating in May. I enjoy reading, going to the beach, traveling, and running. One of my favorite trips was to Greece and would encourage anyone to go there! I have run 4 half-marathons and am looking to run a full marathon within the next year.
