Preparing Parents For Teaching Online Grades 3-12

Getting Ready To Teach In Your Homeschool

There are three NFC Academy Programs to select being the home teacher. If you are on this page you should be in one of these three programs:

  • Homeschool Edition Online grades 3-8 which includes Elementary grades 3-5 and Middle School Grades 6-8. This is a part of our accredited programs and includes one of our teachers as a resource teacher assigned to the program.
  • Homeschool Plus Online grades 9-12 which includes our high school grades 9-12. This is our high school home teacher program which is a part of our accredited program with an assigned NFC Academy Resource teacher.
  • Homeschool Basics Online grades 3-12 with the parent as the home teacher. This program is not accredited and there is no teacher support. There will be office support for general questions you have. This program is not a part of our accredited programs.

All online programs have Ignitia Technical Support available if you are having any technical issues with the online program on your computer or device. Our staff is always ready to answer your questions.

Grading Supporting the Learning Process

Home Teachers using Ignitia Online for grades 3–12, Accelerate Online for grades K–2, or BJU Press Digital Streaming Video for grades K–2 are responsible for ensuring that all academic work is graded accurately and promptly. Your Resource Teacher is available to answer questions and provide guidance, but does not grade your student’s work.

Grading is an essential part of the educational process. Timely, meaningful feedback helps students understand their progress, correct mistakes, and master concepts before moving forward. Keeping grading current supports success in the student’s present courses and preparation for the next grade.

Consistent grading is also a key requirement of our accredited Home Teacher programs. These programs share our commitment to academic standards comparable to those of the NFC Academy Teacher Program. By keeping grading accurate and up to date, Home Teachers help fulfill that commitment and support their student’s learning.

NFC Academy provides Resource Teachers to assist families in meeting these academic responsibilities.

Home Teacher Faculty Progress Reports are reviewed twice each month, at the beginning and middle of the month, to monitor grading and student assessments.

When grading falls outside Academy expectations, the Resource Teacher will contact the family to provide guidance and encourage timely completion of outstanding grading.

If grading delays continue, a live video conference with the appropriate Department Head will be required to review expectations and develop a plan for improvement.

Continued failure to maintain grading and assessment standards may result in a temporary suspension of student course access until outstanding grading responsibilities have been completed.

Working Together for Student Success

Our goal is not simply to establish grading deadlines, but to ensure that every student receives the academic attention necessary for successful learning.

Accreditation brings both benefits and responsibilities. Families enrolled in our accredited Home Teacher programs enjoy the flexibility of home education while sharing in the responsibility of maintaining NFC Academy’s academic standards.

We appreciate the dedication of our Home Teachers and encourage families to communicate with their Resource Teacher whenever assistance is needed. Working together, we can provide students with a quality Christian education built on academic excellence, personal attention, and meaningful learning.

Using Ignitia Gradebook

In the Home Teacher Online Program, home teachers will not use all aspects of the Gradebook covered in these three short videos, but they are available to you as you need information. The Academic office staff will assist you as you have questions about the gradebook functions.

Academy Course Assignments To Complete

Which assignments does the student complete in the courses?

As the teacher in your Ignitia course, all regular assignments must be completed in the order they appear in Ignitia. Regular assignments are considered daily lessons, periodic quizzes and the unit tests. There will be essays, reports and labs for science. Ignitia provides assignments in the area of essays and reports which some are required while others are not.

We have for our teachers the assignments which must be done by the student to complete each course. Those assignments are listed for each course in what we call the Academic Library. As the home teacher you have access to the same material which our teachers use to ensure students complete the required assignments. Each course will have a PDF or web page that shows the assignments that must be completed to have a course considered complete. Select the button below and you have access to that information for the Academic Library for courses in each academic division. These buttons will take you to the page you need for your courses. Math Resources For Home Teacher-Student

Our Academic Math Libraries offer additional video explanations and practice problems aligned with daily assignments for all online grades. These optional resources are encouraged whenever students need extra help. Home teachers should also encourage students to work through math problems with paper and pencil.

Students in Math 700, Math 800, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II are expected to complete their Ignitia companion resources. Completion may earn up to five extra points on each semester’s final grade; contact the office for help applying the credit. Use the buttons above to explore the libraries and click a video title for additional math help.

The Academic Libraries identify required assignments for each course. All students must complete daily assignments, quizzes, and unit tests. NFC Academy teachers review each course to determine which additional reports, essays, projects, and labs are required.

For Home Teacher science courses in online grades 3–12, labs come directly from the curriculum and are listed in each course’s Academic Library. These include virtual labs and hands-on experiments, most using common household supplies.
