Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more schools have shifted from face-to-face classes to online classes. Some students are having a hard time transitioning from the traditional way of physical learning to distance online classes. While there is not much difference in the curriculum, subjects and topics, the overwhelming course work can be a roadblock for students taking online classes. When preparing for online classes all you need to remember are the tips below which simply say, GO ONLINE!
G – Get Everything You Need
Before you start with your online classes, make sure that your computer or laptop and the necessary accessories are ready. Check your headphones or headsets with its speakers and microphones functioning properly. See to it that you have the needed software like Microsoft Word mostly for written works and Adobe Acrobat for reading. Ensure that you have installed important applications such as Zoom and Google Meet. Some schools provide their own software so complete its installation on your device. Aside from preparing digitally, prepare physically by making sure you have your textbooks and writing materials for notetaking, when necessary.
O – Own Space Matters
When having online classes, it is vital to have a place to work in. Make sure that this space has all you need, conducive for learning and is free from loud sound and other distraction. Having your private space can help you to learn more efficiently.
O – Overview of the Virtual Campus
Just like when you are in the physical school, you also need to familiarize yourself with your online school. Be familiar with the admission process and be able to navigate the school Web, the software and applications needed for your online classes.
N – Note the School’s Key Information
As you navigate through the virtual campus, jot down or bookmark important details such as the different offices and their contact information such as number and emails. This will guide you in case you will need assistance later on as you go through your online classes.
L – Location and Layout of Your Online Classes
Make sure you know the website or application to be used for your online classes and create your username and password. You can use your log-in information to access your class schedule, know the readings and activities for your online classes. Familiarize yourself with the dashboard and where to see the links, discussion boards and other important tabs. After you’ve become accustomed to the layout of your online classes, locate, read, and scrutinize the syllabus. This will help you become more prepared, focused, and perceptive in having online classes.
I – Introduce Yourself
Although you will be studying mostly online, it is still a common courtesy to let your online homeschool teachers and classmates know about you. Tell information which are only necessary and will not jeopardize your privacy. Self-introductions are also a good way to get acquainted with other students and eventually find a friend. Having someone you can communicate with in online classes may make you feel less detached, even in the absence of physical presence.
N – Normalize Online Classes
Think of online classes as just traditional classes without physical interaction. That way, you can still collaborate with other students and not be overwhelmed by the feeling that you are alone in this endeavor.
E- Enjoy
At first, you may be frightened by the thought of having online classes. The feeling of doing this on your own might overwhelm you. But when you allow yourself to relax and enjoy the experience, you will find that having online classes is a great adventure, indeed!
