National Honor Society

The National Honor Society was established in 1921 and exists to elevate a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These four pillars of membership have been associated with the organization since its inception and continue to be the principles that guide student participation. NHS membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments academically, but also challenges them to further develop through involvement in activities and community service. In 2016, NFC Academy began a chapter of the National Honor Society, allowing the school to select members based on these important 4 pillars of membership. Even as an online school, students who are accepted into membership of the NFC Academy chapter of the National Honor Society are expected to uphold these qualities.

CHARACTER

NHS members uphold principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others.  Persons of character are also courageous and have a higher level of integrity that allows them to be brave enough to do the right thing in spite of outside pressures.

SCHOLARSHIP

NHS members must meet this first criterion to be considered for membership.  Scholarship is more than just being skilled or intellectual.  It is also about being curious and hard working.  A more educated person who is better equipped to initiate positive changes in the world. Each member must have and will maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

LEADERSHIP

NHS members are leaders who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life.  A leader possesses the confidence and drive to better the world around them not just for themselves but for others as well.
